Pr. of 19th C. Majolica Trumpet Urns Painted by Ficaflli Mollica

Impressively large pair of late 19th century Italian Majolica Trumpet Urns hand painted and signed by Ficaflli Mollica. The urns feature the bright earthy colors typical of the styles created in Italy by the famous Urbino, Castelli, and Deruta artists of the 16th century. The urns display continuous scenes of the life of 18th century Italian peasants going about their daily tasks. They are further enhanced with vivid polychrome enamels and applied vines and flowers.

The Mollica family and their relationship with the Capodimonte factory began with Pasquale Mollica in the 19th century, a talented artist who was a favorite of King Ferdinand. A colorful character in his own right, who lived to be over 100 years of age, Pasquale produced a number of offspring who had both their father's talent and creativity. It is believed that Ficaflli was one of his sons and continued to work both on his own and at the Capodimonte factory. His pieces are a testament to his fertile imagination and often display unusual shapes, expressive pictorial paintings, and applied foliage.

The urns make magnificent display pieces and are in good condition with some restoration and in-painting to the upper rim.

Size: 25” H x 11” D (approximately).
